George Maxwell

George and his wife Nancy are 4th generation farmers. They own & operate Maxwell Beef Farms Ltd. which includes beef cattle, cropping and a grain elevator. They feed approx. 2500 head of cattle at a time and crop 2500 acres. Maxwell Beef Farms Ltd. are certified Ontario Corn Fed Beef producers and have an Environmental Farm Plan in place. Their three children, Kim, Kelly and Brent are currently attending school and they also help out on the farm.

George and Nancy were born and raised in the Chesley area. They are very active in the community. They dedicate their time to different associations such as the Bruce Feeder Finance Club, Minor Hockey, Ringette, Homecoming Committee and the Plowing Match, to mention a few.

Doug Calhoun

Doug Calhoun and his wife Brenda are also 4th generation farmers who own & operate 800 acres and run approx 3500 head of cattle. They have 3 children. Chet is the Manager of West Grey Premium Beef as well as a part owner. Curtis owns and operates a 100 acre cow calf operation and works in conjunction with his fathers operation. Candice is in her final year at Lakehead University and will be graduating in March with her Bachelor of Education degree.

Doug has been very involved in the cattle business over the past 30 years sitting on different committees in a variety of positions. He is past President of the Ontario Cattle Feeders, past Director of the Bruce Feeder Finance, member of the Bruce County Cattlemen’s Assoc. He also sat on the Ontario Corn Fed Beef Steering Committee and the OCA Feedlot Committee.

Peter Knipfel

Peter and his wife Jacqui own and operate The Grocery Store in Chesley. Peter has been in the grocery business for 31 years starting part time at a Knechtel Supermarket in Kitchener. Holding various management positions with Knechtel's throughout the years, Peter purchased a Knechtel Retail store in Chesley in 1987 where he immediately became active in the community.

Jacqui joined the business in 1992 and is the right hand in the Grocery Store where she works full time.

Jacqui is also heavily involved in the community. Peter served on Municipal Council for 6 years as well as sat on the Board of Directors of the CFIG (Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers) for 10 years, chairing the National Association in 2000. They left the franchise system to become an independent grocer in 2004 to allow them the flexibility to purchase a variety of local products including local beef. In 2005 they were honoured with the Bronze Shopping Cart Award for Canada in their size category. They were also recognized at the SCOBE awards for Corporate Citizen of The Year in 2002.
